Dunes formed due to obstacles like hushes , walls etc. are called nebkhas , where dune formed besides desert depressions are called lunettes.   Dunes are classified on the basis of morphology , structure , orientation , location , internal structure , ground pattern and number of slip faces . These are the various types of sand dunes  a) Transverse Dunes are dunes deposited transverse to the prevailing winds direct...

Settlement classification based on size

In this Geoshortqa we know about the settlement classification based on size.

Settlements are classified according to their size in following manner.

Megalopolis

A group of conurbations consisting of more than 10 million people each.

Conurbation

A group of large cities and their suburbs consisting of to 10 million people.

Metropolis

A large city and its suburbs consisting of multiple cities and towns. The population is usually I to 3 million.

Settlement classification based on size , Geoshortqa

Large City

A city with a large population and many services. The population is less than one million people, but over 300000 people.

Small City

A city would have abundant services, but not as many as a large city. The population of a city is 100000 people to 300000.

Large Town

A large town has a population of 20000 to 100000.

Small Town

A small town has a population of 1000 to 20000.

Village

A village generally does not have many services, possibly only a small corner shop or post office. A village has a population of 100 to 1000.
